Solar Explorer 2.6.14: Space dust
Today’s update to Solar Explorer includes “space dust”, which are subtle, random dust particles that fly past the camera whenever it is moving. The intention is to give the impression that there is movement in the gaps between planets. It really only shows up when in free flight mode because the camera moves so fast when jumping between planets using the buttons. I added an option in settings to disable it, called “extra effects”.
Some important bugs have been fixed. I discovered a problem that would occasionally cause the app to get get stuck at startup and leave the user looking at the main screen with all of the buttons disabled. The app can be used “offline” now as well, which was another bug. Finally, the FPS counter has been moved onto the toolbar where it won’t be blocked by the calendar display anymore.
The only outstanding fixable issue that I know of is that the labels for Proteus, Phobos and Deimos will tend to flicker when using free flight mode
