Solar Explorer 2.6.6: HD & HD Pro complete!
After 12 months of work, the rewrite of both versions of Solar Explorer in Unity are now complete.
For those who don’t know the story, the original version of the app was written with Shiva. About 18 months ago, the company that created Shiva had some financial issues. Due to local laws, there was no need for them to publicly report the issues, so I only heard something was wrong four months later. At this point, there was no information about whether Shiva would survive, so I was forced to assume the worst case scenario and jumped ship to Unity.
The new version operates the same as the old version, but looks completely different. I know that a few rare individuals are going to hate it because it’s different. When it came time to release the app, I had two choices: either abandon the old free and paid versions of the apps, or upgrade everyone to the new look app for free.
I think I made the right choice.
I’ve worked hard to ensure that this version will be compatible with every device that the old one was.
- It supports Android back to version 8 for the earliest adopters. The free version only supports version 9 and up.
- It’s got the same feature to switch into small screen mode as the old version did.
- It will scale properly to multiple different screen aspect ratios
- I’ve optimised the app as much as I can to keep it running as smooth as possible.
While it will work fine on the majority of devices, there will be some obscure chipsets which cause the app problems. Or possibly performance issues on older or very low powered devices.
If you encounter an issue after installing it, then please contact me. If it’s something I can’t fix because it’s related to the Unity technology, then provide me your purchase details. I’ll send you a copy of the last Shiva version of the app to install manually.
