Deimos and Phobos

Time for a new update to Solar Explorer.

I’ve continued to re-work the back-end to make it more flexible for adding objects to the Solar System, which has allowed me to add realistic models of Deimos and Phobos to Mars. These two moons are now the smallest objects in Solar Explorer, handily smashing my previous rule of having no objects under 200km in radius.

Breaking this self-imposed rule also opens up the possibility of including other objects such as comets.

This change involved re-scaling the Solar System so that it’s now just under 20,000 Shiva 3D units across, which is pretty much the maximum size Shiva allows as the camera object can only see objects up to 10,000 units. This of course means that if the Sun object is to be visible from Pluto, the Solar System can’t be more than 20,000 units across.

The new larger scale has allowed me to increase the size of all the planets and moons by 10 times, meaning that I can now show much smaller objects.
